Item
:
Pure lime, chemically changed by simply adding water.
Slaked Lime.
A very natural
process done by Mother Nature or random chance or God, and by humans intentionally for thousands of years in native and modern cultures. White powder, very fine grind that seems to get everywhere. 100% Pure
Calcium Hydroxide. Made in the USA. NOT from China. I could offer cheaper stuff from China, but I just don’t trust the purity.
Calcium hydroxide
, traditionally called slaked lime, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formul
a Ca(OH)
2
.
Slaked lime is a white powder obtained
by adding enough water to lime to satisfy its chemical affinity for water, thereby
converting its natural oxides into hydroxides,
and it magically evolves into calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)
2
or “quicklime.” Lime has a low toxicity to humans and is used in many applications, including food products.
Hydrated lime, although slightly soluble
only
in water, forms
suspensions easily; the resulting powder has a
very alkaline
pH of 12.4!
Calcium hydroxide
has many nicknames including hydrated lime, builder’s lime, slack lime,
cal
, and pickling
lime.
Calcium hydroxide is commonly known as edible lime, hydrated
lime or slaked lime. Edible lime is an alkaline powder used for a multitude of
purposes.
Although called
edible, it is
not eaten by itself
. It has been used for millennia with certain natural plants and
herbs, such as sacred
rustica
tobacco,
coca
leaves,
gambir
,
yopo
, and betel nut (
areca catechu
), to increase the
absorption of their alkaloids into the human bloodstream via the mucous membranes.
Slaked lime was traditionally used by Native Americans for processing dry corn kernels in a way that increased the absorption of niacin, an essential B vitamin. Additionally, edible lime is used in
pickling and processing various food products, as well as in some beverage production. Due to its alkaline
properties, it is also used to balance out acidic soil and can be used
similarly in mycology when added to substrates.
