Description

Item Description
:
This Hopi plaque basket dates to the early 1900s.  It measures 6″ across.  There is ultraviolet fade on the front of the basket.  Otherwise, this basket is in great condition with no missing stitches or stains.  It is a very nice example of early Hopi basketry.
This early Hopi basket was found as part of a collection of Native American  items from the Flagstaff Riordan family estate.  The Riordans were some of the earliest settlers of Flagstaff Arizona.  They first settled in Flagstaff in 1884.  They owned the Arizona Lumber and Timber Company.  The Riordan brothers were associated with the development of Flagstaff from its earliest years.  They are first cousins of the Babbitt brothers of Flagstaff. The Riordan Home is now a historic site and open to tours.  I will be listing more items from this collection in the coming weeks.
